No, it is not. The only thing that has changed is that parents are no longer teaching their sons that men's hats are removed when they come indoors.

no parent’s have when i was young (i’m 23) i got hit if i wore a hat to the table parent’s are to soft on there kid’s they have no manner’s or work ethic these day’s i fear the Direction this country is heading

These "so called rules" were made up by suffisticated aristocrats meant for each other. People ate uncomfortably. By rules made up by someone who "thought" they new the manners of eating in front of each other

What if a man is cold without his hat? Does he have to eat cold?

Let people eat at their comfort. Then they will most likely enjoy their meal.

Only for picnics and hot dog stands at ballgames. I wish country singers would lose those tired-@$$ cowboy hats, too. After all, they're not roping cattle or driving tractors.

I don’t believe this is purely about manners. I think it is about what’s practical and what is customary also. For instance,

Eating outdoors, guys use their ballcaps to shield their eyes from the sun, and also shade their face. I find nothing improper about that.

When eating inside a nice restaurant or someone’s home, the hat needs to come off. But if you are eating at a fast food restaurant…really….who cares? There is not much of a dress code for fast food. Guys get "hat-hair" and they just look bad when the hats off.

If someone wore a hat in my home I wouldn't care. They might be wearing the hat for a variety of reason such as a medical condition or uncomfortableness with resceding hair line or bald spot. It's just a hat and it doesn't bother me.

No. It is not proper etiquette. A gentleman in Western culture does not wear a hat of any sort in the house or restaurant, especially at the table. An exception could be made for small town bars with pool tables.

Lots of things have changed. It used to be proper for a person to remove a hat as soon as they were indoors, but that is long gone.

Good manners never change. A hat should come when a man enters a home or sits down to eat. It should come off in church and in elevators and in theaters.
