Why does the front of my baseball hat wrinkle when it is put in the washmachine?

I had one hat that I put in the wash machine and it came out clean but the front face of the hat would sort of wrinkle a little (hard to explain but if you’ve seen it you know what im talking about). Why is this? I let it air dry and wash it on a very small load. Is it the spin process that does that? Something else?
What does the pillow case do?

Some caps have cardboard in the bill and when wet and then dried to fast it will warp. I usually just hand wash and hang dry my caps.and wash in cold hot will shrink fabric

  1. put all your caps in a pillow case

  2. They make a plastic device that’s shaped like a hat. You open it up, put your hat in the middle and close it back. It keeps your hat in perfect shape while it washes. They probably sell them at walmart.
