What is the best way to clean a hat (baseball hat)?
My bf has THE DIRTEST had ever. It’s all sweaty looking, smells and LOOKS dirty. He won’t get a new one because he loves the darn thing so much. How do I get it clean without ruining the shape of the bill of the hat?
Any suggestions would work!! thanks a lot.
A lot of people put them in the top rack of the dishwasher, but I just can’t bring myself to wash a dirty, sweaty, ball cap the same place I’ll be washing my dishes later, so I throw them in the washing machine, usually with a load of jeans. Pre-treat with Shout or Spray-n-Wash if it’s REAL dirty. When you take it out of the washer you can reshape the bill easily, if needed. I hang it on the clothes line or on a hook on the bathroom door to dry. Very simple!
Put it on the top rack of the dishwasher. Run as usual (but not with dishes).

I just throw my hat in the washing machine, then dryer. I’ve never had any problems with it messing up the bill because most hats now have a cloth covered plastic bill instead of the paper/cardboard like older caps. You could also put it in the dish washer or they sell a thing at Lids (and other stores I’m sure) that is made to protect the bill of caps in the washer. It is pretty inexpensive.

Personal experiance
soak it in dawn soap and really hot water (dishwasher soap)

Yup, like the first poster said, the dishwasher works great.
I started putting mine in the washing machine lately. I put the settings on gentle, keep the water level low, and run it on a short cycle.
When it first comes out, it looks a little misshapen but once you put it on your head, it pops right back into its old form.
