I need to redye my black felt hat….help?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under felt hat | 2 Comments »

How do you put colour back into an old faded black felt hat, I love it , it has good memories but it’s a patchy grey colour so I rarely wear it anymore.
Has anyone got any ideas on simple, inexpensive, useful ways to make it black again?
It does have a ribbon stitched around the brim that I’d rather not have to take off if it can be helped.

    Thanks for any advice

I need help with sizing on a fitted hat?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under fitted hat | 1 Comment »

So, there is this that I really want and I am a 7 3/8 for fitted hats. But the sizes they have left is only 7 1/4 and 7 5/8. Which size should I get that will be the best closest to my fitting?
**Its an online purchase. Thats why I’m asking.

Can you go in person to try it on? Or is it an on line purchase? The best way is to try it on…really that’s the only way to get the perfect fit.
If you have to choose, I guess I’d go with the 7 5/8.

Ok, if it’s an on line purchase, there is usually a customer service department you can ask. Even if you have to click on the email address where it usually says "contact us". Ask them for the correct size because it’s their merchandise and they can better fit you with the right size. Anyone on this board would really be guessing.

What’s with all the cowboy hats at the RNC ?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under cowboy hats | 6 Comments »

I noticed a lot of people are wearing cowboy hats at the Republican National Convention. Why?
Has standard etiquette been changed? I always thought you were supposed to remove your hats when entering a building. At least that’s what I was taught in the Air Force.

    Republican=redneck

Infact, Palin’s assumed business was Rouge Cou (redneck). Basically, Redneck=out in the sun too long.

any Fedora hat stores in Victoria or Vancouver, BC?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under fedora hat | 3 Comments »

Hi, i want a Fedora hat i need to find a store to find one is there any stores in victoria i live in victoria so ya i don’t mean the party plastic hats the real thing. Any stores?

If you want a real one, one made by Biltmore, then check out their website at http://www.biltmorehats.com/index.htm

They show two locations near you to purchase them, at a shop called ‘I Love Hats’, and a shop called ‘Edie Hats’.

The addresses for the Vancouver shops are listed on the ‘where to buy’ section of their website.

They are excellent quality. I have purchased a couple for a male friend, and with proper care, they look as good today as they did in the mid 90’s when I bought them. Definately worth the price. And made in Canada.

How can you shape and crease a fedora hat?

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009 and filed under hat | 2 Comments »

I was just wondering what do you use to reshape and crease a fedora hat? Bought one recently and the creases were off. If someone could give me any suggestions from people that have dealt with a hat. Appreciate it.

You use steam to re/shape felt hats.

Fedoras usually have a smooth surface – they don’t have much ‘nap’ to the felt – so you can steam press them without ruining the finish. Get a damp cloth, place over the bit of hat that needs reshaping, and apply a hot iron to force steam into the felt. The felt will become pliable/bendable and you can shape it gently by hand.

If it’s an older hat it may have gone a bit floppy and won’t keep shape well. I’ve used spray starch (follow directions on can, but put a cloth over the area before you iron lightly) to add a bit of stiffness. A proper spray on felt stiffener (from a millinery supplies company) should work better.
